News is in, alas, that the celebrated British cartoonist Ronald Searle has died aged 91, at his adopted home of France.
The BBC quote Simon Winder, from his publisher Penguin saying: "We are all extremely sad to hear of Ronald's death. He was a marvellous, remarkable man and a great artist. I can think of nobody who did more to ridicule and undermine 1950s Britain, and [his work] will endure forever as masterpieces of comic anarchism."
Ironically it’s almost exactly a year ago that I posted my write-up of his retrospective exhibition at London’s Cartoon Museum.
